For a 12-year-old whisky is rather weak, for Diageo - the norm. Separately, points could be thrown for a bottle - very convenient, it fits in empty slots on a shelf! 19 21 20 19

OK, I paid 15.99 euros net. That's awesome but not worth much more. I had a bottling about 10 years ago that had a nice hazelnut flavor, but that's totally missing here

Easy-to-drink-dram for the cooler season. Uncomplicated, good PLV.
MrGlenfarclas6902 mar 2024 3:53 pm
Just as I remembered it from the old bottling. Fruity nose with lots of pear and sweet malt. But then extremely thin and meaningless on the tongue. If I'm a guest somewhere and I'm offered it, I take a dram. But I wouldn't order it voluntarily.
DramALife8012 feb 2023 7:33 pm
S 6 Nose was quite promising with a “typical” highland profile. Palate slightly derailed with the sulphur but still in the same direction, the finish completely lost momentum due to the minimal ABV. 71-80 - Drinkable, worth the experience at least

First bottle batch: ? Second bottle batch: L3119DM002 000019320 > Second bottle review: Reminds me of Loch Lomond in general. Nutty, woody and fruity, slightly spicy low quality Scotch. Notes of fresh fruit (apple), STR casks and pepper dominate. Very bitter and sour, and somewhat sweet. Behind the overdose of questionable quality wood we can also find some sherrywood notes like cinnamon, raisins, clove and toffee, a fresh note (citrus/mint), some honey and a generic fruitiness (peach?), with a touch of sweet barley. Hints of (synthetic) leather, herbs, chocolate and lemon candy. The finish is unpleasant, medium-long, dry and bitter. Oak dominates, with some toffee and malt. Off notes are obvious: there is a rubber and industrial note pervading it all. The subtle PX notes are pleasant but can’t compensate for the general mess. Taking into account the price, it is a fairly complex and interesting, close to balanced, uncomplicated, but still very low quality Scotch. Too intense for distracted drinking or getting drunk, it's just too bitter. But I appreciate its intensity. It is also watery, tastes like noone cared about the flavor, and is obviously mass produced. I can't say I like it, but it is not bad, and almost works in certain conditions. For some time, years ago, I thought this was almost good. I don't know if my palate has evolved, so I just don't appreciate STR casks anymore, or that the content of the bottle has really changed, but I went from "I almost like this" to "It's fine, I guess". It tastes exactly as the price would suggest. It is not a completely boring and generic dram, like most of those in its price range, but the off notes are too overwhelming to even try to casually drink it. This profile for sure has a chance to work for older versions (better casks, more age, higher proportion of sherry casks, etc.), but this one is still too young to let the rich sherry notes flourish and hide the super low quality production. Also, this is one of those that tastes better if you don't compare it with anything else. The moment you go back to it after tasting basically anything else it falls apart hard, and tastes actually disgusting. But, by itself, I actually find it decent, and at least agreeable. In summary, a forgettable, nondescript Diageo's mass produced bottle which happens to be a little less generic than their average mass produced bottles. I would suggest avoiding it. Intensity: 3/5 (Adequate) Complexity: 2/5 (Simple) Originality and challengingness: 2/5 (Generic) Density and oiliness: 2/5 (Slightly watery) Quality/price ratio: 2/5 (Not worth) Rating: 61/100 (I think it's OK / Agreeable / Decent) (C+) [Same rating as: Glen Moray Chardonnay Finish, Loch Lomond Original (NAS), West Cork Rum Cask Finished] Am I the only one that finds the disparity of ratings and tasting notes amusing?

Fresh fruits, citrus, honey, sultanas, icing sugar, pepper. Sweet and sour. A little nutty, a little malty. Good texture for the ABV. The nose and palate are quite engaging, with a medium finish. I enjoyed this very much, a pleasant surprise.

12/07/2024 - bottle Tasted blindly with a 1920 glass, it is definitely better than The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve, sold at a higher price here in Brazil, where it causes a lot of confusion, as The Glenlivet 12 does not arrive here, which could provide good competition.
Whisky Hamster8214 may 2021 10:29 pm
Surprisingly (at least for me) good entry level malt that can hold its own at a mere 40% avb. Very fruity, just an easy sipper. Previous versions were inferior as far as I remember.
ZLako8210 jan 2023 11:49 pm
Lots of people told me that this is water, that this is bad. They told me this is insignificant and weak and bad in taste. I beg to differ. I picked up from Auchan because it was on a very low and nice price. Finally the case of Singleton of Dufftown 12 will be solved for me. N: Floral and fruity. Baked apples with warm honey and cinnamon on top. Some malty elements in the form of biscuits. The PX comes into the picture for a moment with some dark coffee and sweet red berries. (84) P: At first a bit thin maybe even watery but as you taste it it get's heftier and full. Spicy notes entering with warm red berries and honey. Feels a bit more than 40% now. Apples and vanilla with some cinnamon. A hint of oak can be detected. (82) F: Spicy with wood notes and some bitter coffee. (80) Not an outstanding whisky nor an insignificant one. For the price it's great. I'd recommend this if you take a whisky to a friend that is a beginner or to places where people don't usually drink whisky, because it's nice sweet and not alcoholic. 84 / 82 / 80 = 82 pts / 100

For me, Singleton 12 is too simple for the European market (probably Dufftown), flat to watery whisky, which does not offend but is absolutely forgettable... I smell something like mustard seeds, the only funky thing in it. Otherwise, fine for the price...

Better than a lot of basic malts I’ve tried. No offputting notes but no notes really stand out. It tastes a bit Diageo over engineered to maintain a consistent flavour for supermarket whisky customers. Quite watery initially and I’m straining to pick up the buttery cereal nutty spicy notes. Vanilla is in there somewhere. This is hardly a dram to blow you away but on a hot summers day it will do fine.

Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old 40%, consumed July 2021. The aroma is somewhat milky, slight mousy oak, faintest lemon note, furry. Taste is creamy, soft oak, lightly spicy, spicy oak, this is a pretty lacklustre dram. Maybe the word 'lacklustre' is unkind but it's very middle of the road, not displaying much character, seemingly not blended to display any particular distillery character/USP and bottled weak - so that the life has been sucked out. Slightly watery but not insipid. There's spicy oak and light salt and pepper notes, and a soft of pervasive milkiness. It's okay 3.2/77

The aroma is very subtle to weak, but when you really stick your nose in there, you will find pleasant sherry, the sweetness of ripe fruit, chocolate, candied fruit. Such a classic without depth and whisky underneath. Simply pleasant at first. As it exhales more and more, it shows more, but actually spoils the impression. Nuts, apples, a little citrus acidity were added and thus it lost that initial sweet impression. The taste is sweetness, ripe fresh fruit, a little pepper, chocolate and then it just starts to go nowhere. The first impression is good, but you must not look any further. In the finished product, nuts, the sweetness of fruit, a little chocolate. Overall, it is a whisky for the first impression, but only for the one that makes it drinkable. When you start looking further, you will find that there is nothing special under that pretty facade. Certainly nothing wrong with it, but simply nothing interesting. Like when you pass a pretty girl in a car, a quick glance, a quick conclusion "yeah, that was nice", but you don't actually know anything. At that speed, you didn't really get to see her anyway and you don't even know what's behind that face, and sometimes it's better that way because you keep driving with the impression that you saw a pretty girl who would be worth it.

20 euros for a bottle of (at least) twelve-year-old single malt from Speyside? And would you like a bar of chocolate to go with it? The "Singleton of Dufftown", matured in PX and Oloroso sherry as well as refill bourbon casks, really does pull out all the stops when it comes to attracting the attention of potential customers. Be it through the bright turquoise packaging and the tall, narrow bottle reminiscent of a hip flask - or through the almost unprecedented competitive price at which it is offered again and again (and almost everywhere). Good quality doesn't really need advertising. So is this bottling from Date a whisky that is best avoided? To answer this question, you need to try it yourself. And if you, like me, go into it without great expectations, you might even be pleasantly surprised. Aroma: At first sniff, I can only detect the beginnings of the intense nuttiness that is always talked about with the Singleton of Dufftown. What is more characteristic and noticeable is a very light fruity, citrus sweetness that gives the nose a fruity basic character. The wood, as well as a certain spice and the influence of the sherry casks, remain pleasantly in the background. What you smell here is not overly complex, but surprisingly harmonious and balanced. Taste: Light, bright, fruity-sweet, almost refreshing. For me, everything here screams summer whisky, because although it lacks depth as expected, the whisky still has a pleasant, oily feel on the tongue. In contrast to other 12-year-old beginners (yes, I mean you, Auchentoshan), you can definitely tell that it's old here - despite the barrels most likely being very exhausted. And you can now taste the nuts, as well as a hint of peach, much more intensely. Finish: Short to medium-long and actually hardly worth mentioning. You actually notice little to nothing of the 40% alcohol by volume. Only the wood from the barrel and a certain malty sweetness leave a light impression. Conclusion: Even at the risk of making myself unpopular with many people, I consider the "Singleton of Dufftown" to be a good, harmoniously balanced entry into the world of single malts. The price-performance ratio is good, there are no off notes. It is light, drinkable, one-dimensional, but still not boring. And in a direct comparison I would even prefer it to a Glenfiddich 12 or, above all, a Glenlivet 12. But do you need a second bottle after your first one? Maybe just to get other newcomers interested in the subject. Once you've drunk your ten to twenty different single malts, you won't be tempted out from behind the kiln again.

September 8, 2022 74 / 100 Color: Amber, tinted with caramel. AROMA - 19 / 25 Initially, the freshness of the distillate and its alcoholic nature are striking. Jam, apples, and a touch of honey are at the forefront. There's hay, caramel, and a touch of plums, raspberries, oatmeal, and pepper. It's okay for the price, but without any real positives or negatives. It's simple and quite pleasant. TASTE - 20 / 25 Initially woody and tannic with a touch of bitterness, it warms. The second sip improves, but an unpleasant bitterness remains. Coffee, nuts, burnt caramel, and buckwheat honey are present. There are also notes of compote, but the overall flavor is still spicy. FINISH - 17 / 25 The finish is unfortunately short and watery. Notes of dark chocolate, plums, and tobacco. BALANCE - 18 / 25 I have good memories of it because it was one of Whisky's casual field trips. For its price it's not bad, but it lacks a bit of substance and could use more organization.

For me this is the classic example of a beautiful whisky which is not delivered as it should be. Both smell and taste are full with fresh fruits, maltiness and honey, lots of honey. It is very tasteful, but one-dimensional. If it hadnt been chill-filtered, watered down to the bare legal minimum and loaded with tons of e150a then this would be a real banger...
Beaty-Tang8705 jan 2021 11:34 am
Wow, I am very pleasantly surprised. What can you expect from a bottle of malt whisky for € 22? A lot as it turns out! The whisky brings strong aromas and a certain complexity. Lots of sweetness and a little dark fruit set the tone. A bit dry in the finish and maybe a little bit of smoke. The finish does not quite match the nose and taste, but it is still within limits. All in all, a top price / performance ratio. You can buy it without hesitation and enjoy it.

A very pleasant whisky. Easy to enjoy, sweet soft, mellow, and light. A good value dram. Didn't really detect the PX sherry cask influence which was stated at the back of the labe, but nonetheless this whisky is simple to enjoy and I can't see any reason to not like this whisky. It's well balanced and inoffensive. A straight forward offering
