Teeling Single Malt

'Dare to be different' is what they aim for at Teeling, and in that they have succeeded. Using casks from Cooley distillery, they give their single malt a craft presentation which is unusual for Irish whisky. On the nose, grainy and floral notes combine with lemon oil, honeydew melon and a touch of ginger. The palate features green apples, shortbread and aniseed, followed by white pepper, sour citrus fruits and herbaceous bitterness. Hints of vanilla, oak spices and lingering freshness remain in the medium finish. A malt with character despite its young age. RATING: 3.4/5.0 stars ≙ 82 pts → ABOVE AVERAGE [-]

Part of the "Teeling Trinity Pack". The box info states that this is a blend of malt casks aged up to 23 years. In Scotland that information would get you sued by SMWS. If there's any 23 year old single malt in this it just proves that some deranged Master Blender think that any and all end product is better than it's single components. I've had a couple of full size bottles of this, and it seems to me to be quite a batch variation.

What better way to celebrate St Patrick’s Day than with an evening of six whisky’s, hosted by Dave Broom. N: Theres a misconception that most Irish whisky is triple distilled from pot still. This is double distilled single malt. I nosed pineapple cubes, candied bananas, roily-polly, jam tarts, lime custard, clay, and a floral perfume. Lots of promise pointing in many a direction. T: Needs a dash of water as its a little raw, peppery and green - its not out of control however. Time allows the pepperiness to fade but it can’t get past its rawness. Grapes and unripe apple notes most highlight the immaturity. More water improves the mouthfeel. F: Fades quickly but the slightly clean & dry remnants are good. Grain finish. C: Lovely nose but the rest needs more time on the clock. Im guessing this is between 6-8 years old. Reckon this could be happening 12-18 years as theres plenty of energy up front and complexity on the nose. Next up, Jameson’s WB Scores a C[-]

Great as an aperitif, but also matches well with a sweet dessert like pastry with fruit. Good strength, but can take water.

I don't know, there's something I don't like about this whisky. It tastes way too young and the nose is super sweet.

Pleasant and approachable, this is a reliable choice for a casual pour when you want something decent but not demanding.

beautiful Irishman. I like it. The manchaml slightly obtrusive note in the Irish whisky, especially at Bushmills and the Tillamore Dew Malt is here only discreetly felt. I like that.

- good Irish single malt at a fair price - stored in 5 barrels (Bourbon, Sherry, Madeira, Rum and Sauternes) - You don't notice anything from the rum barrel, but the many barrels are a specialty for the "simple" single malt

Beautiful Everyday Dram, like over and over again, nothing is intrusive, a lot there, the fruit salad in the nose is unparalleled. Notes from an online chat tasting on Teeling.

There is a strong imbalance and there is no integrity of the picture. If the flavor was surely promising, then it went downhill. In any case, this whisky is interesting to parse, it is diverse and there is a lot to say. And if there is something to say about whisky, then this is a good whisky! 21 20 18 16

All in all a very nice Irish. A bit too expressive for my taste...

An interesting whisky. A bit too spicy for my taste. Complex and somehow complex.

Strange nose. Very juicy (fruit) but also a bit sour notes. Too much finished whisky imho. Its going everywhere without any balance on the nose. In Dutch its a Toverbal. It taste is very light and extremely fruity, but again not very balanced. Finish is a bit spicy.  Not quite my cup of fruit juice....
MrGlenfarclas8314 nov 2021 12:51 pm
Immediately cow dung in the nose. Where does it come from? Then fruits. Getting darker but not really cute. Alcohol in the background, beautifully integrated. A little bitter remains. Otherwise really a very nice whisky. Pleases.

The distillate does not convince me at all. I prefer most entry level Scotch OBs to this. Every now and then it works well on the tongue, but the finish is always a letdown.

Irish standard with good Ralfy key data. Should come across decently and easily. I wanted to be surprised but that was not mine. Spicy with a spicy finish. "Hot" number. Unfortunately, we both do not get together. Pure taste.

A very fruity whisky without edges and without overstraining. The influence of the individual barrels make it complex and you get a wealth of fruit flavors. The creaminess stands out clearly, it is almost viscous and creamy. A fruit cocktail with sugar edge, I like - 09.07.2017

This is a nice summer whisky, nice in the afternoon in the sun. With fresh fruit, citrus, scent of bees, vanilla and a hint of sulfur.

The personality of the whisky is strong, but maybe not in a good way - unfortunately most of the notes are somewhat discordant. Nevertheless it would be a good experience to try a dram.

Nose : I think they call this a meaty whisky. The worm-tub smell, can not describe it otherwise. Vanilla sugar, wood, caramel with cream, zeeuws girl syrup. AAARGH I know this smell ........ Sweet tropical fruit. A greasiness that smells like in confused cherries. Everybody knows I know what I mean now. Florist after a minute or 5 together with white chocolate. Taste : Sweet-sour sauce from the Chinese. Dust as in 'dust', Fresh wood. Tins, all of which have a different color and taste the same as the plastic-you never get from it. Body : Full of fat and creamy Finish : medium-long. Canned tropical fruit. That wood flavor comes and goes. comments: HFW - VBT sample # 2

Excellent Irish whisky at a very affordable price under 40 euro (I paid 37,50 euro each for my bottles). Sweet and fruity dessert dram. Maybe too sweet for some people if you don’t have a sweet tooth like me. It was a big surprise when poured blind to some whisky buddies during a recent cheese and whisky pairing event that I organized at home. Everybody really liked it and rated it much higher than the average rating here on WB. Not very surprising because cheese and wine are a good match as well and this whisky has an outspoken wine finish. My favourite Irish standard expression together with the Redbreast 12y 40% which is also a true bang-for-your-buck under 40 euro a bottle. Teeling Single Malt also tastes good without cheese!

A pleasant fruity, not-as-Irish-tasting-like-a-single-pot-still-whisky, malt. Sourced from one of the big Irish distilleries, not a Teeling original to be sure. Fairly priced, good alternative to Scotch entry level single malts.
Boro7514 aug 2026 2:12 pm
The presence of alcohol is too invasive, covering the flavor of the barley and other notes influenced by the various casks, which, moreover, are truly difficult to distinguish and identify. The result is a low-quality distillate without any real character.

Teeling Distillery is an Irish whisky distillery established in Dublin in 2015 by the Teeling Whisky Company. It is the first new whisky distillery to have opened in Dublin, once a world whisky distilling capital, in over 125 years. In fact, with the last of the original Dublin distilleries having closed in 1976, it is the first whisky distillery to operate in Dublin, once home to at least 37 distilleries, in almost 40 years. The distillery was established by Jack and Stephen Teeling, whose father John Teeling had founded the monopoly-breaking Cooley Distillery in 1987. It is located in the Liberties area of Dublin, close to where Walter Teeling, an ancestor of the family had established a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in 1782. The symbol of the brand, a phoenix rising from a pot still, symbolises the re-establishment of the Teeling whisky brand. "Made with Irish Whiskys distilled from 100% malted barley, matured and finished in casks that impart the influence of five wine casks (Virgin American Oak, Ruby Port, Caravelos White Port, Madeira, and Bourbon). This Irish Single Malt Whisky delivers a unique fruit-forward flavour profile that is complex, yet balanced and has often been described as "a symphony" of flavour." Overall this is a very good starting expression from Teeling. I think they put quite enough care into this whisky to make it loveable. Great cask usage and great flavor profile thanks to that. The 46% ABV is also appreciated. This is worth every penny you pay for it. 86 / 100

I'm really not a big fan of Teeling and therefore did not expect much from this starter malt. The filling has surprised me but then with its fruity aromas and the delicious taste. Of course, the whole thing is kept pretty simple and quickly forgotten.

Nose: Super sweet Sugarwater. Creamy, Winegums, overripe Melons, gets super Floral after a while and a bit waxy. Taste: Gentle arrival. Sugarsweet and a bit spicy, with Pepper and Salt. Finish: middle long. Peppery spices. Sweet and drying.

One of the most beautiful Irishmen who have been in my glass so far. The mixture of five different barrels harmonizes surprisingly well and is well balanced. So much complexity, however, makes it a little difficult to discover an independent character and may be too much in the end. Neither in the nose nor on the palate I could separate the individual barrels in their characteristics from each other. But that is whining on a very high level - the Teeling Single Malt is in its overall image an excellent whisky with a great PLV that does not have to hide a bit from the established Scots!

I like it. a typical beautiful fresh ire. Perfect for an evening on the terrace.

The strength of whisky lies in the beauty of its nose and the fruity mouth. This one is a bit short and betray some youth more than likely this NAS. And above all an unbeatable value for money. Dram anti headache par excellence. More than recommendable!

This is a great soft fruity sensation, exactly on strength, quite complex, freshly sweet, flawless, a lifelong friend. Some character poverty perhaps, there are no pronounced corners or landmarks. The ABV is completely perfect for my taste. The barrels that are tipped here, sherry, port, madeira, white burgundy and cabernet sauvignon provide the varied colorful spectacle that you can expect. More than excellent price / quality. Don't lean for long, call Teeling.
JohannesB8719 jun 2015 9:41 pm
Wonderfully balanced between fruit and spice. No aspect dominates, everything changes extremely pleasantly. The highlight for me is the nose - like a journey into a realm of tropical fruits in a summery paradise. I was skeptical whether the variety of barrels used (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, Cabernet Sauvignon) can be well coordinated - but it succeeded. For the price of around 40 EUR an absolute recommendation, in my view close to the much older Bushmills 21.

Tasty ier. The nose is the highlight. Juicy, fruity with apple, pineapple, coconut, vanilla, cake and spicy. Body is somewhat thinner. Finish is rather spicy with parsley and thyme and unfortunately a somewhat volatile bitter finish, characteristic of a young whisky. Nice, but not yet fully grown. For an Irishman, on the other hand, one of the best I have. Except for the yellow spot and redbrest.
Implar8712 oct 2016 7:56 am
I’m generally a sucker for well made Irish whisky, and this delivers. Wonderful nose and good palate. The finish is a bit short, probably due to it’s young age. At this price point, it’s a whole lotta bang for not a lot of buck.http://whiskyinformer.com/home/teeling-single-malt
peterjpvanas7807 aug 2016 12:38 pm
Colour: pale Nose: Honey, a bit of solvency, wood, nuts, but then strong X-mas pudding. fruits edging to tropical fruits. Taste: Clearly the rich fruit-cake/X-mas pudding. Sweet, but now also a few pepper notes and a bit of green unripe fruit Finish: very short, pitty...maybe a bit too young? Apparently not tripple (most Irish whisky), but double distilled. The bottle is average, but rest of presentation (label and blackened bottle) quite nice

My first Irish whisky! A step aside from Scotch, with a peculiar and complex wood combination from wine casks, that’s already clear from the fruity and floral nose. Taste reveals crispy and a bit spicy, yet with some vanilla sweetness and pleasant crispy cereal notes. Once the initial fruity flavours fade, hints of fresh grass, chocolate and liquorice prevail, leaving a smooth finish, balanced between oak and slightly sour/sweet (white) wine lingering finish. Of course I can't have many comparisons, but surely it's goodquality for the price.

Smell: Grains, pear, milk fudge, slightly champagne, hard candy and alcohol Palate: Pineapple, breakfast cereal, rough, sour mirabelles, sponge cake, but all covered with some bitterness and woody tannins The whisky is rough, but in the background you can feel the influence of the finish barrels, they are delicate but nevertheless outlined
