This is a vast improvement over the old version, but still not a top class dram.
Wow, positively surprised. If it had only one age and 8 or 10 years ... I would have a home. Delicious thing to discover but not overwhelming, the 46% instead of 40 or 43 also do very well.
This was in a book called 101 whiskys you should try before you die and i saw it in a supermarket on special so i bought it and was pleasantly suprised. This was head and shoulders above the La Santa sherry cask finish.
I like it, as the port influences are not too big. The maturation adds fruitiness to this dram, and does not make it too sour as can be the case with many port matured or finished whiskies.
Quinta Ruban is Glenmorangie`s port finish. To craft this single malt they specially selected Port pipes from the Douro valley in Portugal The nose is full of winter berries and a touch of port. A good oak and a little cereal hanging in the substratum. The palate is sweet and thick. The port note is chewy and rich with notes of barley sugar and cereal and lots of juicy fruit and berries, a tad cloying. The finish is long and fruity and quite sweet.
Average whisky, kinda spineless and smooth-edged.
A very odd finished whisky. It starts off very well, but falls flat about half way through. Not my favorite.
Single dram note. Transferring previous Note (2011.11.30) content into a Tasting Note.
The darkest and most intense whisky in the extra-matured range, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal. http://www.glenmorangie.com/
I love this version, it is a 12 yr and full of flavor. It is priced right and is great on the port, subtle of mocha and spice on the finish. Drinkable on any occasion
A port cask finishing that I believe is not really top. Herb and sweet notes on the tongue with a certain sharpness that I do not like altogether. I guess that Glenmorangie was trying to improve a flat barrel with a second maturation.
initially very spicy, benefits greatly from oxygenation, the spiciness dissipates into chocolate
I love this. I appear to have drunk about 8cl in the writing of this note and that's always a sign that there is a lot going on and I need to think to sort it out. But, it's not complex in an unbalanced way. It all seems to hang together in wonderful harmony. Time to stop messing around and buy one of these I think.
Can't say I'm convinced. From a soft distillate and a port cask, one could expect a really sexy, fruity, almost cloying dram. It's far from being the case in my opinion : this is quite acrid and incoherent, and as much as it surprises me to say so, I wish the cask influence was actually bigger. The finish is nice though.
After grapes tasting entry ... Wonderfully soft ... delicious ... Since it's a "young" whisky, the infamous Port woodiness did not stand a chance ...
The port maturation adds a whole new dimension to the 10yo original. Easily quaffable and balanced nicely. My only gripe is the rather thin mouth feel after a while. Quite odd, as the initial arrival was strong and characterful.
With barrels of Ruby Port (at least 18yo) Again a good product, nice mix between the Ruby Port and the restâ € |
very full, a lot of ex-bourbon influence, vanilla, a lot of caramel, pleasant oak, red grapes, nice Portnote, some honey, but not so harmonious, the port seems a bit "put on", one means a Portreifung "next to" an Ex-Bourbon -Reifung in the glass to have
Good whisky. Excellent value for money. But get ready for some sweet stuff.
This is a whisky with port wine finish, and wood finishes isn't my cup of tea. They come with strange flavors too...
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Tasted Sept. 26, 2014 @ Edinburgh Airport: strong Portwein onset, then quite quick drop in taste with a short finish of the main flavor, but long-lasting cherry aftertaste 59
Nose: Ripe dark fruits, cherry, pear Taste: Plum, grapes, mint, apricot, baked apple, spice, walnut
Nose: Mild, clear port. Slightly alcoholic. Overall, but rather no strong nose, spicy, warm, slightly sweet Mouth: Moderate starting. Distinct alcohol, initially sweet, which later turns into a dry spice, is altogether soft without becoming very strong and strong. Port, fruity, but no typical sweetness, like a sherrycask. Finish. Medium. Dry, alcohol stays behind. At the end there is a slight bitterness and the influence of the pores.
Nose is GREAT!!! Taste - so so.
A really nice and dark Whisky that is pretty well balanced. It's easy enough to drink to enjoy it without thinking of it, but complex enough to be interesting if you concentrate on it. I like it.
