Quite simple and easy drinkable if there weren't those strange background notes on the nose and in the finish

Orchard fruits, some citrus, white pepper, iodine, not bad at all

Color: Light amber. Nose: Aroma of malt, with subtle hints of green apple and a sea breeze. Palate: Full-bodied yet smoothly medium in texture. Complex flavors of vanilla, honey, toffee, and apple, complemented by the sweet influence of bourbon cask maturation. Finish: The lingering aroma carries a vibrant hint of the sea. Matured in three different cask types (Bourbon, Sherry, and Rum).

A smooth, good price performance. A clean, very distillate forward, whisky with not much to say about it. Price performance: Good. Would I buy it again?: I don't think so, it's not at a level I would seek out.

I guess I found myself among overly demanding consumers or perhaps among die-hard fans of distinctive, overly dominant sherry whiskies... I simply don't understand the low ratings, but I understand that we are not the same! The aroma of this whisky, although perhaps simple, is very malty, vanilla, seaside (salty sea breeze), port (wet hemp rope), slightly chalky, definitely cherry, with a bit of perfume freshness. The taste is also straightforward, malty, slightly woody, bitter, tannic, but also vanilla, with a salty and slight touch of waxiness at the end. Yes, maybe it lacks the ABV percentage, I admit that I would like to taste it with a higher "voltage"... But for the money this whisky is a very good choice and it nicely reflects the characteristics of the distillery. Well done Old Pulteney!

It smells and tastes like rotten, organic material.

Very flat and watery whisky. I don't even know the still!

Pretty uneventful. Distillate forward, oak cask, light barley sugar, acacia honey, touch of spice. Just had bland Nikka Days whisky which I rate higher than this one. Produced en mass for the travel market.Will not be getting a bottle of this one.

Light salinity and smokyness, unfortunately, does not hide weak barrels...although nowadays the fact of specifying the age in a duty-free release is already a feat in itself. But in general, it is weak, does not convey the character of the distillery, although it is easy to drink.

Pulteney Distillery, situated on the historic port of Wick, is one of the most northerly distilleries on mainland Scotland. In the 19th century, Wick was the herring fishing capital of Europe, with 1,000 boats using the port. The area south of the river, known as Pulteneytown, inspired the brand’s name. Since 1826, it has been producing single malt Scotch whisky that captures the essence of its extraordinary maritime location. Barley was once imported by sea, whisky was shipped by boat, and many of the distillery’s employees were also employed as fishermen. As it matures, Old Pulteney absorbs the sea breeze, developing its distinctive flavour. Inside the distillery itself, the washhouse, where part of the whisky making takes place, is unusual in that it does not have a swan’s neck – legend has it that this was because the roof was discovered to be too low to accommodate all the equipment. The extreme location and exceptional stills have resulted in a distinctive flavour, full of the power and subtlety of the sea. The Old Pulteney continues to produce malt whisky using traditional methods almost two centuries after its opening.

Basic whisky. Old Pulteney is not exactly top whisky, but I was happy to add to my education. Light vanilla whisky. Classic. Honey, some flowers, biscuit. For my taste, watery and a little more bitter than I would like. I won't buy a bottle and if I don't come across it again, I won't miss it.

Absolutely horrible. Wet cardboard, dusty, puke-y, fake caramel (no doubt due to colouring). Avoid at all costs.

The aroma welcomes you with a sea breeze, followed by sweet fruits and caramel. In the taste, the caramel becomes stronger, the sea breeze disappears, the sweet fruits become weaker. Finally, everything flows together into a sharp finish.

Good price for the quality. Sometimes these salty whiskys are exactly what you’re looking for..
