I love Port Cask Finish whiskys, but this one is not my thing, although it will probably find its consumer in the large army of fans. Very rough, alcoholic, distilled at high speed. Youth + alcohol content = low rating. N:19 T:21 F:20 B:20
Not a lot going on in this one Disappointing dram
A few drops of water bring out red berries and dark chocolate, rich, sweet spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, creating a complex profile. The port cask influence is evident in its slightly fruity and wine-like sweetness, balanced by a gentle oakiness.
Because it has been on port casks, this Whisky already has an edge with me. That gives a whisky a nice taste to me. that also applies to this whisky. It therefore has a beautiful brittle color.
A bit expensive for a NAS port cask finish, but quite typical as well. The colour is unusual, but this whisky is artificially coloures.
Nice fruity Arran. The distillery character is clearly there, so is the cask. Initially it’s a bit closed and very fruity, with a bit of water it opens up and I get more of the buttery, creamy and cake/sugary notes. Like most of Arrans core so far, initially it’s ok but nothing special, but I could see how this could grow on me (like for instance the 10YO and Sherry Cask did).
Nice fruity Arran. The distillery character is clearly there
Surprisingly different for a port cask influence, but unmistakably well crafted. Not a fruit bomb / port bomb, but great easy sipper.
For me, this is one of the stronger Arrans from the core range. The port cask comes through well without completely taking over the whisky.
Hmm, I like it, wood and malt supplemented with tons of port wine, for me it's worth buying a bottle
Honey, chocolate with raisins, plum, cinnamon, spices, some red fruits, orange peel, spicy and slightly alcoholic finish.
nice dram. not to complex easy sipper
The characteristics of the wine cask add a layer of taste to the middle.
I’m a big fan Port matured or finished whiskies, so I always have high standards when I find one. Since I like Arran. I was curious to try their portwood standar expression wich I did from a sample. Unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations. Tastes really young and the Port influence is weak. From the colour I started immediately to have some doubts about what I was going to taste, because every time I see a Port matured whisky with a light colour, I get suspicious. Port matured it finished malts must give a clear reddish colour. I didn’t find it with this Arran.
Like a typical port wine finish, it was full of dark red fruits - cherry and cranberries. Incredibly smooth with “a pleasant nuttiness”.
this is really bad. bottom burnt taste from start to finish.
