Een nieuw jasje, maar dezelfde whisky. Waar de standaard range met nieuwe recepturen en nieuwe expressies te maken kreeg, is er voor de cask finish serie niets verandert. Het procedé is volledig hetzelfde gebleven. Dus de whisky start zijn rijping op traditionele vaten en wordt na zo’n acht jaar voor een tweede rijping overgestoken op de portvaten. Hoelang die finish duurt, staat niet van tevoren vast. De duur wordt bepaalt door intensiteit van de finishvaten. Het uiteindelijke resultaat wordt op een sterkte van 50% gebotteld, uncoloured en un-chillfiltered. Alleen voor de Nederlandse markt bestemd.

Initially it’s a bit closed and very fruity, with a bit of water it opens up and I get more of the buttery, creamy and cake/sugary notes. Like most of Arrans core so far, initially it’s ok but nothing special, but I could see how this could grow on me (like for instance the 10YO and Sherry Cask did).

I was curious to try their portwood standar expression wich I did from a sample. Unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations. Tastes really young and the Port influence is weak. From the colour I started immediately to have some doubts about what I was going to taste, because every time I see a Port matured whisky with a light colour, I get suspicious. Port matured it finished malts must give a clear reddish colour. I didn’t find it with this Arran.
