Slightly softer than some Islay whiskies, but tasty nonetheless. A good session dram.
Light golden color. Oily structure.
Nice, I would say my best Machir Bay so far, totally tasty, smooth, great entry into the world of Kilchoman
Aroma-Delicate;Palate-83/100; Aftertaste-Medium ;
Enjoyable every day dram!
Smoke, peat, maritime, mineral, red berries, spicy, citric, some wood. Well balanced, medium body, creamy, salty. Overall intensity between medium to pronounced. Inexpensive.
A standard from Kilchoman and a very good one. Great smoky whisky that has a very fresh note thanks to the lemon. Lemon and vanilla dominate the nose. The 46% ABV is well integrated and not noticeable. You don't even notice the young age. A very relaxed smoky whisky that is easy to drink in the summer months. Simply delicious.
good daily tipple great with oysters
Strong bourbon cask influence. Sweet, fruity and smoky. N- Grassy, cereal ,smoke and pear. T - fresh fruit continues with crispy sweet peat, citrus, vanilla, malt, F - malty smoky peaty . Nice oily body and mouthfeel, complex and great value.
Nose: Sweet, vanilla, butter biscuits, smoke, mineral, malt, some lemon, oak ••• Taste: Sweet, spicy oak, smoke, mineral, vanilla, light spices, malt ••• Finish: medium-long, sweet and slightly spicy notes with smoke and malt ••• Conclusion: A pleasant nose with sweet vanilla and butter biscuits in the foreground. There are also mineral notes and smoke. There is also a bit of lemon, malt and oak. The taste has a sweet, spicy start with oak. Then smoke and mineral notes come in. Vanilla, light spices and malt follow. I can taste a bit of liquorice every now and then. A nice smoky standard from Kilchoman. Very drinkable and not overwhelming. I can't find any off notes. The alcohol is well chosen.
Tried it on November 25th at Volkshaus in Zurich. I'm sure I've had Machir Bay before, but I don't remember anything specific.
Smoky, fruity, lemon, citrus, ginger, some wood notes, fresh taste. Real good standard expression of Kilchoman.
aroma: full, rounded, peat, smoked meat, salt taste: balanced, full, smoked almonds, meat, smoke balanced, smoky, delicious, delicate
A very modern and precise Islay malt. Peatsmoke, lime fruityness and wood influence are perfectly balanced. As others have said, a good entry into the Kilchoman bottlings.
The aroma is simple, fresh, marine, distant peat, lime, honey, metallic notes. Young and light. Taste – dense, a lot of peat, oiliness, salty tones, brine, peanuts. Disappearing, notes of ham and slight bitterness appear. The aftertaste is average – salty-citrus, slightly bitter.
Machir Bay is dominated by fresh citrus notes and a pleasant sweetness. The bourbon influence brings plenty of citrus, vanilla, and honey. The sherry influence adds fruity notes. Everything here is very harmonious and well-balanced. The smoke serves only as a support and is well integrated. It doesn't taste young at all. It's a fresh, well-composed Islay malt with gentle smoky notes. The price-performance ratio is excellent, making Machir Bay a standard that should be in every whisky collection.
Slight sweetness in the smoke.
So far I liked the Kilchomans I had, but none really blew me away. Same with this one. It’s enjoyable, but pretty simple and (slightly noticeably) young. I’l gladly have another dram, but I probably won’t buy a bottle. If I were to get a bottle of Kilchoman, The 100% Islay 8YO is the best contender so far.
Machir Bay is a whisky that always leaves me with mixed feelings. Sometimes it leaves me almost cold, other times I find it surprisingly enjoyable. It comes across as an Islay whisky with a deliberately approachable profile – less uncompromising, more focused on balance and drinkability.
Bottled no MBA 20/06/23 23/70 Overall, It feels like drinking a smoky sea and earth water. It's a whisky I really liked; there's sweetness, but it's not overly noticeable, it's quite subdued, yet it still makes its presence felt. It has a unique character, a very full-bodied, creamy texture, very clean, I didn't feel any unpleasant aspects. It's a whisky made in a perfect triangle of coast, sea, and smoke, and it's very well made. Especially on the palate, it has an amazing cleanliness and fullness; it can be enjoyed every day.
Part of Kilchoman 2024 European Tour tasting. Good entry to the Kilchoman lineup. Good balance with peat and cask sweetness. Actually I enjoyed it way more than their other more limited expressions.
overall, not so interesting as I expected, however for this price it is adequate N: a bit peaty, sweet, some spice T: young alcohol, salty, lemony, touch of ginger F: smoky, spicy, a bit bitter
Good, more peaty in the nose than in the mouth, very good balance.
Too phenolic for me. Predominant peat and citrus and nothing a lot more going on.
De whisky op 11 dec 2024 in mijn adventkalender. Kilchoman is altijd een favoriet. De geur is 100% asbak. De smaak is heerlijk zacht. Rokerig met een sherry zoetje. Perfecte balans voor mijn smaak.

New to Scotch whisky. Great taste, some smoke, good on a cold day. Actually tried at a tasting in Scotland with cheese pairing. enjoy with friends.
